ca. Summer, 1400 BCE

I am back aboard the ship, sailing home towards Helos. The weather is, fittingly, much worse than it was when I arrived. I figured it best not to linger in Dakarai's home after the Pharaoh's death, even though I had hoped to stick around for at least another week.

Because I left too soon, I didn't hear anything about Amenhotep II's burial, but the local's public mourning was enough of an event in itself. It lasted right up until I left, and their will likely still be mourners for a while.
These mourning processions primarily consisted of citizens baring their chests and crying out in the streets to express their grief- These criers were typically family members of the deceased, Dakarai explained, but I suppose this was an extreme occasion where many townsfolk had to join in. I was only able to catch the beginning of the following service- in which the Pharaoh's body is carried to be embalmed- before I had to get on the ship. Over the rooftops I could see people following, like a somber parade, as Amenhotep II was carried away. I send regards to Dakarai and his family and hope they are safe and healthy. I will update when I am home.
