ca. Summer, 1400 BCE

Today marks the summer solstice, and Dakarai says we can soon expect the Nile to flood, which will be followed by many festivities. Rather than partake in any celebrations, though, today I am going with Dakarai and Masika to observe their temple. During the solstice, the sun is expected to align with the temple as it sets. I have waited months to observe any kind of temple activity, but I'm glad I waited for today- Masika says it will be quite beautiful.

The sun has fallen and we have returned home from the temple. The temple of Ptah, or Hut-ka-Ptah, stands tall against the rest of the city. Hundreds, maybe thousands of people came today to celebrate the solstice at the temple. I watched as the priests opened a shrine containing an image of Ptah; they purified, greeted, praised, clothed, and fed the image. This was the last of many services that had taken place throughout the day, and as it came to a close the sun aligned itself perfectly between the two high walls of the temple. I am honoured to have been invited to worship with Dakarai and his family.

My days have been busy and I have not had much time to write, but I hope to update at least once before I make my final departure in a month. Good night.
